  2. Inspect the belt for missing ribs, glazing, fraying, oil contamination, and abnormal tracking, then check pulley alignment and bearing noise.
  3. Release tension using the designated point, keep fingers clear of pinch zones, route the new belt without forcing it over a pulley, and verify every rib is seated.
  4. Rotate the system by hand where safe, recheck routing, start the engine briefly, and listen for abnormal noise before closing the job.
Safety note: Keep hands, clothing, and tools clear of rotating parts. Never spray belt dressing onto a running belt to mask a noise.

What causes a new serpentine belt to squeal?

Misalignment, contamination, incorrect routing, a weak tensioner, a seized accessory, or a damaged pulley can all cause noise. Do not assume the belt is the only issue.

Can a broken serpentine belt damage the engine?
