  1. Confirm the drivetrain, transmission side, ABS tone-ring requirements, axle length, spline count, and replacement hardware for the exact vehicle.
  2. Inspect both inner and outer boots, look for grease spray, and road-test only when safe to distinguish turning clicks from acceleration vibration.
  3. Support the vehicle, remove the axle without loading the transmission or suspension, and protect seals and threads during installation.
  4. Torque the axle nut and related fasteners to specification, verify fluid leaks and wheel torque, then check for noise and vibration on a cautious test drive.
Safety note: A loose axle nut or improperly supported vehicle can cause loss of wheel control. Do not reuse one-time-use fasteners when the service information prohibits it.

Can a torn CV boot be repaired without replacing the axle?

A boot may be serviceable when the joint is clean and undamaged, but contamination or clicking usually means the joint needs replacement. Inspect promptly.
