  1. Confirm the correct axle, pad shape, rotor diameter, electronic parking-brake requirements, and any required hardware for the exact vehicle.
  2. Inspect both sides before disassembly for uneven wear, seized slide pins, damaged hoses, leaks, and rotor scoring or excessive corrosion.
  3. Support the caliper without hanging it from the hose, clean mating surfaces, lubricate only the specified contact points, and torque fasteners to specification.
  4. Pump the pedal before moving the vehicle, check fluid level and wheel torque, then follow the pad manufacturer’s bedding instructions in a safe area.
Safety note: Do not drive with a soft pedal, fluid leak, damaged hose, seized caliper, or brake warning lamp. Brake dust and cleaner require eye protection and ventilation; never use compressed air to blow dust toward yourself.

Common questions

Do I need to replace pads and rotors together?

Not always, but rotors must meet the vehicle’s minimum thickness and condition requirements. Uneven, cracked, severely scored, or below-limit rotors should not be reused.

Why does the car pull after a brake job?

Possible causes include uneven friction, a seized caliper or slide, tire differences, suspension issues, or air in the hydraulic system. Stop and diagnose the cause rather than continuing to drive.
